What many need to hear

If you call yourself a Christian, you need to be worshiping each week with other Chrisitians.   If you work Sundays, find a church that you can go to on another day of the week or at a time convenient.  If you CAN attend, you SHOULD attend.  Why would any Christian not attend?  There are just too many out there not to.

See you Sunday or WHEN you CAN!

Where are you?

Where are you?   If you have visited this website, you must be checking out churches and probably for several reasons.  Did you find some things to interest you in maybe  being our guest?

I put on our marque the message "No gimmacks  the Bible  the church an worship".  That could mean something different for each of us but what I had in my mind was that South Burleson Baptist Church has a focus.

I've read and own books about church growth, vision, and community  ministry but without that focus above, some of that other stuff just cost more money, time, energy and I've been in the big and small churches with that other stuff.

We've been here since February 25, 1978; the church building burned in August 23, 1997 but rebuilt.  I am happy to be the pastor.  Have we had time to be a much bigger church?   Probably.  Are we trying to be a bigger church?  Well we certainly believe the church is the called out ones--God's people.

But my question is "not do we want to be bigger, but is everyone that needs to be part of this local church family of South Burleson Baptist church coming to serve, worship, disciple and minister?" I'm not just talking about our current congregation.  I'm talking to you reading this.  I don't want you to quit your currrent church if you are very active.  I'm talking to you who have just got a nudge in your heart and mind that said, "hey, I think I should pray and go check this church out."

So, hope to see some  new faces and maybe a larger congregation.

Share your testimony

As I was taking a class on how to talk to someone about being a Christian, we had to write what was called a Sunday School Testimony, an introduction to my salvation experience.

Mine went like this:

"Sunday School (Sunday Morning Bible Study) has always been an important part of my life.  Some of my earliest memories relate to Jesus and Heaven.  Those initial truths, taught at a level to be understood from a child's perspective, are relevant for me even today.   As a seven year old child, I had an experience that set my life in a direction that will forever give me hope, love, and an assurance of my eternal well-being."

"Since that exprience, I have grown in my undrestanding of God and His love for me.  Each day I am aware of God's presence.  When life is joyful and easy, I can be at peace.  When life gets difficult and I encounter the deepest sorrow, I can find peace.  I have this peace because I have a relationship with God and that relationship is because of Jesus."

Can you write such a testimony?  If you can't do this in your own words or say "A-men" to mine, I hope you will take a look at the web section on this web site about salvation.

Come be my guest this Sunday!

How's 2016 Going?

Well, I've cheated on my diet and exercise,  but holding to one intermediate goal.  So I feel pretty good about that.  My adult children are doing well.  My youngest of two grandsons turns 1 yr old.  I had to fill out some legal papers that asked about my employment continuing and the church said "sure, why not"...no they still want to keep me.

Speaking of church...I just had to take a moment to praise members the other day.  We are running about 40 in worship but let me tell you one thing.  There is so much love and care in this church family.  I've been pastor here for 2 years now and I have never seen so much being done to help each other.  We don't have any big ministry to the community yet because our few can just minister to the members and occassionally to some in the community--by community, I'm not talking letting people use our ball field--I'm talking love in action.

I'm not trying to get you to change your church--but if you are looking, come worship with us.  This is a great church to get back to where you need to be.  Then if God sends you to a mega-church, go there--but they might not remember your name like we will.

The Pastor's "Sermons"

First of all I hope  you have a Blessed Christmas.  This is a wonderful season of giving, worship, and family.  Enjoy it.

Many church web sites have available by audio or video the pastor's sermon, or as I prefer to call it "message."  Some in my congregation think this would  be a good idea for our church.  I don't see any real hinderances toward that nor is it beyond our capacity. We just may do it.

But, I sort of have an aversion towards this, though I know it would  probably  help you out there decide to be our guest or not.  You see, I don't want your choice of coming to our church to be based on the content or presentation of the message, nor do I want it to be based upon the personality  I portray as I preach.  I know these are important.  Here is what I'd like you to consider.  I think God will help you in your choices, especially if you pray about it.  Next, I think word of mouth is important.  Next, I believe your first greeting from a church member is important and your participation in Bible Study (Sunday School) and Worship is really important.  The message is important because it is the message I felt God gave me to share from HIS WORD.  And lastly, you need to experience your departure and the "hope to see you again" contact.

Again, Merry CHRISTmas and hope to see you this Sunday.
